Not that I can be arsed to register just for this, but a solution is using http://lilurl.sf.net/ instead of writing yet another. See http://ur1.ca/ for a working service.
I personally dislike the use of URL shortening services for most use cases. Such URLs usually break after a certain time period and the indirection causes dependence.
